Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recruitment process, and how long does it take – from beginning to end?
The recruitment process is based around 3 key stages.
First Interview – This is used to help us identify the skills and knowledge areas you possess. It helps us familiarise ourselves and more importantly puts a face to a name.
Workout – If you are successful in the first interview we will invite you to attend a workout day. You will spend a full day with one of our local Sales Consultants working alongside him/her. You will experience how the job is done, types of customers, products, and many other aspects of the role. What is important is that you try where possible to get involved during the day. It will also give you the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like. This day is a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ event.
Final Assessment – If you pass the workout stage you will be asked to attend a final interview/assessment; here you will be expected to prepare a presentation on a number of subject areas, and there will be a role play and a panel interview. This event is aimed at exploring your core competencies and development needs. Most candidates attending find this part of the process daunting but enjoyable. Usually, we let you know on the day whether you have been successful.
This whole process can take from 2 weeks to 5 weeks depending on the time available from both sides.
What training is available?
We pride ourselves on the training and coaching that is provided during your career at Würth UK. All new Sales Consultants are taken through an 8 week integration plan where they gain as much knowledge and skills as possible in their first 8 weeks. This is done through regular workouts, head office training, workouts with experienced Sales Consultants and workouts with Area Sales Managers.
Ongoing training is provided through the Area Sales Managers and Regional Sales Managers through workouts (a minimum of 2 days per month) and monthly sales meetings where two thirds of the meeting is spent on product training and sales training.
Is there ongoing support?
We don’t expect any of our Sales Consultants to get it right first time. As is explained above, all Sales Consultants receive a minimum of 2 workouts per month – if you require further help, then it’s down to the individual to ask. What is important is that we do expect all of our Sales Consultants to learn and study the product range in as much depth as possible and this may mean some of your spare time is taken up in the first 6 to 12 months whilst getting familiar with the vast range of products.
Can I build a long-standing career with Würth UK Ltd
The simple answer is: YES.
All of the sales managers within the Würth organisation have been promoted through the ranks. All Area Sales Managers have been successful Sales Consultants, and all of the Regional Sales Managers have been successful Area Sales Managers – even our Managing Director started as a Sales Consultant.
Is there a lot of paperwork?
No – all the customer history, product information including pricing and discounts, order processing and reporting procedures are held within a palmtop computer. This enables you to spend more time developing existing customers and more time looking for new ones. It also enables you to have up-to-date information on pricing and product changes, etc.
What is the structure – and who would I report into to?
Simple – you will be working within a team of anything between 7 and 12 people. Each district is headed up through an Area Sales Manager – who is your ‘boss’. He or she reports to the Regional Sales Manager, who in turn reports to the Managing Director.
Questions and Feedback
While we like to think that we get things right most of the time, we do like to have feedback. If you have anything to say about how we dealt with you during the recruitment process, or have any suggestions to improve the way we recruit, then please feel free to email your comments – whether positive or negative.
